The latest work created here is a brand new anomaly test. I know what you're thinking - another one? Already?
I've managed to work out a new way of achieving the anomaly effect; previously I had been limited in the shots I could use by the method by which the anomalies were created. This was due to a limitation in the way one of Blender's compositing nodes (the zoom blur effect, which is used to create the light rays) which meant that the anomaly could not move during the shot without a huge amount of precise hand-animation.
The new method is a two-stage approach: rather than attempting to render the anomaly and composite it into the scene with camera tracking at the same time, I now render the anomaly object out as a square image and then place that image into the 3D tracking scene as a 3D object. This allows for a much greater versatility of shots, although it does come at a slight quality loss so close-up shots will be achieved by the more traditional approach.
This video also marks the first time I've used Rhino's Camera Steady. This snazzy bit of kit will allow very smooth camera motion in handheld shots, once I've fully mastered balancing and controlling it (which isn't as easy as it would seem considering the thing is actually pretty heavy)
PRIMEVAL QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
"Rex! I swear, when I catch you, you're gonna be the first animal to become extinct twice!"
